Smashburger’s newest location on South Broadway in Tyler next to the Courtyard by Marriott hotel has confirmed an opening date of December 15th! The new restaurant will be the first in it’s building to open, soon to be followed by a new Wingstop and Subway.

The most recently confirmed tenant is TCBY Yogurt shop which is expected to open it’s doors early 2011. The TCBY brand has been working hard to revamp their image, and my understanding is that we can expect a cool, modern, self-serve, atmosphere with the same great tasting, high quality frozen yogurt TCBY is known for, but hopefully with more flavor and topping options. I can’t wait to see how this exciting new project unfolds!

Monday, April 5th, the Tyler Discovery Science Place is holding the Sweet Discoveries Fundraising Event. The event, located at Jakes Tyler, will feature wine tastings from across the United States paired with dessert creations courtesy of Jakes. Tickets for the event are $100 a person, and proceeds directly benefit the Discovery Science Place. Activities for the evening will include a silent action, a Cole & Co. gem pull featuring a 1 carat sapphire, entertainment, and more!

The Discovery Science Place, named one of the Top 25 Science Centers in the Nation, is a hands-on family science museum that provides cool and exciting educational experiences for kids of all ages. I think the place is super cool, and I don’t even have kids! Sweet Discoveries is the major fundraiser for the science center, so as many people as possible are needed to come together for this great cause. If the tickets are a little steep for your budget but you still want to help, volunteers are always needed at the Discovery Science Place. More info on that, where to purchase tickets, and other DSP related info can be found on their website, http://www.discoveryscienceplace.org.

People may think Andy’s is your typical run-of-the-mill ice cream shop, but that is so wrong. Andy’s Frozen Custard is a secret recipe of cream, milk, sugar, and eggs, and is processed and shipped to Andy’s locations within 24 hours providing their patrons with the freshest, creamiest, best tasting custard out there. The custard is then made fresh hourly, and only served at its peak to insure optimal taste and texture.

While the custard itself is fabulous, its Andy’s creative toppings and sundaes that put them over the top. A topping blended into the custard is known as a concrete, and the injection of topping into the center of a concrete is known as the jackhammer. My personal Andy’s favorite is the James Brownie Funky Jackhammer which consists of brownie and peanut butter concrete jackhammered with hot fudge… Oh man, that sounds so good right now despite it being about 30 degrees outside. Andy’s also serves seasonal treats such as Blackberry concrete during peak blackberry season, warm Apple Pie sundaes for cold winter nights, and Candy Cane concrete for a Christmas time sweet treat.

The Andy’s in Tyler, located on South Broadway, is family owned and operated and at least one family member can be found working at all times. The service is always so friendly, and the workers are always smiling. I probably would be too, if I got free custard.
