We stop in there every few months to do some shopping. I like the selection of athletic shoes and their prices are comparable to other athletic chains. I also usually get my Reef flip-flops there and occasionally some fan gear. Somehow, they get stuff that I can’t find online. Since I know what I want and where it is, my only interaction with the staff is ‘do you have these in size 12′ and ‘does this come in another color’, so I have no complaints about their service.

I am in there every few months because I REALLY want to spend my money at local businesses and they do have a better selection than other stores in Tyler. But I almost never spend a dime in there. The customer service is so bad it’s laughable. I have never even had anyone make eye contact with me. I just ordered almost $500 in backpacks and back to school shoes for my kids from Zappos. I would have been happy to spend that money at R&J if anyone had even acknowledged my presence.

If a pack of wild boars were to ever escape onto S Broadway Avenue….I sincerely hope they would form an orderly que and bust through the doors of R&J and cause some wild boar-like mayhem.

Always amazed when I can walk into a Tyler store, walk around for fifteen minutes, and NOT be waited on! The young staff typically are too “busy” folding shirts or watching tennis on the tv…here’s hoping the Academy puts them outta business.

The Tyler’s (Keep Austin Weird) tshirts are based on a store called Tyler’s in Austin (it’s named this because it’s a sister store to raquet and jog and since this is where it all started they gave it the name Tyler’s) “Keep Austin Weird” is a campaign in Austin to promote small, locally owned businesses in the area.

If I had a penny for every time I saw someone in Tyler wearing one of these shirts, I might actually have enough money to afford to shop there. Seriously though, I just find it annoying whenever I see someone wearing them. Not to mention I am blinded by the bright colors. I like Tyler, really I do, but I’ll like it a whole lot more when this trend is gone.

Over priced athletic clothing & shoes. Tyler teens & soccer moms seem to love it though. I used to shop at the original Racquet & Jog when they were still a small mom n’ pops shop in the Times Square Shopping Center where Neon Dirt & Julians is located now. They carried brands like Stussy, No Fear, Yaga, Billabong, 26 Red, & Mossimo (which is a Target brand now) & actually restrung tennis racquets! I don’t completely understand their new “Tyler’s Austin” campaign. Is that a store or a motto?
